We wrapped up my eight week “Manual Photography” class last evening with a little location lighting demo in the hallway foyer of the school. The lighting challenge we came up with was how to make a cool photo of a fictional “Teacher of the Year”. We started working with the ugly ambient fluorescent light that was there and ended with this shot utilizing two Speedlites, (rear one gelled 1 CTO) and Pocket Wizards.
My students were great this semester and several had some “aha” moments over the course of the class about “seeing the light” and nailing it in their photos. Along with giving back to the community, it’s another one of the reasons I love teaching this class for PCC.
