I spent the better part of the day last Saturday in downtown Portland with four other photo judges, whittling down some 1,200 submissions to the top 100 for Portland’s Photo Of The Year 2008, benefitting the Oregon Outdoor School. Now in it’s sixth year and my second as a judge, Photo Of The Year was started by John Waller of Uncage The Soul Productions and some friends in 2002 as a way to see what travel photos they’d shot the previous year. It’s a pretty cool story you can read by clicking here. Photo Of The Year 2008 will hold it’s awards gala @ 7PM January 24th, 2009 at the Weiden+Kennedy Building in the Pearl. Click here to vote for your favorite ten images from the Top 100 and RSVP for the gala.
The quality of this years entries was superb and made our job that much harder. This year marks the first time a Professional catagory was added, generating 115 submissions. Other catagories include Youth, Faces and Funny. If you care about photography and feel it’s important to nurture that creative spirit, I urge you to vote and attend! Anyone can, and it’s for a great cause, so click the link, sign up to attend and have your vote counted!
